How is
constipation diagnosed and evaluated?
As constipation is the
main cause of hemorrhoids, many tests for constipation and
hemorrhoids are similar, and patient’s history is very important.
Which test or tests will be performed by doctor will depend on your
condition.
History of patient can
reveal medications and diseases that may be the cause for
constipation, also keeping a food diary for a one or two weeks can
reveal a diet low in fiber.
If one of these simple
methods are not enough to point to constipation cause, your
physician can also perform on of the following methods similar for
diagnosing cause of constipation and hemorrhoids: colonic motility
studies, abdominal x-ray, blood tests.
Treat constipation as
soon as you can, because it can lead to a condition called fecal
impaction, when stool hardens so much it can not be passed by
normal bowel movements but must be removed manually.
Avoid using laxatives
frequently, or you might develop lazy bowel syndrome, when that
happens you have become so addicted to laxatives that your bowels
don't function normally.
Hemorrhoids
treatment = Constipation treatment
Prevention for
constipation and hemorrhoids is very similar, and the best
hemorrhoids treatment is a little change in your life style,
nothing drastic is necessary, just increase fiber intake in your
food and drink more water.
Keep in mind that by
preventing and treating constipation you are also preventing #1
cause of hemorrhoids.
