External Hemorrhoids
External hemorrhoids are
kind of default hemorrhoids. When we talk about hemorrhoid
problems, EH are usually what we mean. Since they can be very
painful and troublesome from the beginning of the condition, they
cause most of the problems we associate with hemorrhoids
sickness.
They appear outside the
rectum near the anus as a painful swelling, with intense pain and
very often bleeding. In some cases pain can be so intense, that you
can be unfit for work for days.
This swelling is caused
by a blood clot, very near to the skin surface. You can feel this
swelling as sensitive lump which will bleed if ruptured. When that
blood clotting becomes acute, the condition has progressed to
external thrombosed hemorrhoids. See the picture of external
hemorrhoids bellow.
What are
Thrombosed External Hemorrhoids?
Condition when blood
pools in a distended vein and forms a clot is called Thrombosed
External Hemorrhoids. It is very painful and can cause further
itching and swelling, but it rarely bleeds. These clots can be hard
or soft, depending on situation. It usually lasts for 10 - 15 days,
and resolves by itself, but it leaves excess skin or ''skin tags''
behind.
Thrombosed hemorrhoids
are mostly blue in color, caused by vein strangulation, they are
very painful but can be successfully treated without
surgery.
Cause
Causes can be found in a
lifestyle filled with stress and haste. That is why this is one of
the most common sickness of today, and it is the price we pay for
eating fast food, not eating enough fruits and vegetables and not
taking enough dietary fiber, not drinking enough water, sitting too
long every day, smoking and taking laxatives far too often and
easy.
Majority of the US
population will have severe hemorrhoids problems, and all most 100%
will suffer from hemorrhoids at least once in their lives. Most
often hemorrhoids appear after you reach the age of 30, but the
most endangered part of the population is between ages of 45 and
65.
EH are caused by slow
passage of blood in veins close to the skin surface, and that is
caused by increased pressure in the anal area. Increased pressure
is most often caused by straining during bowel movements and
prolonged sitting.
The basic cause of
external hemorrhoids is digestion problems and irregular bowel
movements, chronic constipation and hard stool. It is also very
common for external hemorrhoids to appear during pregnancy and
labor, the cause for this is increased pressure on pelvic area, and
pushing and straining during the labor.
Also it has been noted
that hemorrhoids in woman appear more often during period. The
change of diet, climate and physical activity can also contribute
to hemorrhoids inflammation. Sitting on the cold surface can
contribute to EH.
